Permanent Residency and General Practice

Gaining permanent residency and Australian citizenship is a goal for most international medical graduates who migrate to Australia. However, these statuses can restrict the locations you are eligible to work in as a doctor.

The key restriction is:
General Practitioners with permanent residency who only hold limited or general registration will need to be accepted on to a 3GA program such as the ‘More Doctors for Rural Australia Program (MDRAP).
